Robert Pattinson's "How to Be" Audition

Rob mentions Breaking Dawn

He's bigger than Ben-Hur at the moment, if you believe all the hype. Yet to come face-to-face with Robert Pattinson is to meet a serious artist, a multi-talented individual who could as easily have been a classical or funky musician as a movie star.

The Twilight juggernaut is propelling the 23-year-old British actor to the heights of mega stardom and, having previously only played minor roles, most notably as Cedric Diggory in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, he is making the most of it.

The small independent movie, Remember Me, was able to go ahead as the result of his casting and Pattinson is now in Unbound Captives, a western set in 1859, where the world's sexiest youngster gets to act alongside the "Sexiest Man Alive", Hugh Jackman.

"The Twilight fans are so devoted, even fanatical, that I'm now able to do so many films," Pattinson says. "The economy is just so bad at the moment. I don't care if they think I'm right for the part or not. I can get their movie made, which is great."

The trim actor says what has happened to him has been "pure luck." After all, handsome Henry Cavill, who made a dashing impression in TV's The Tudors as Henry's friend, the Duke of Suffolk, had been Twilight author Stephanie Meyer's original choice to play Edward Cullen, the lovelorn vampire who falls in love with the human Bella Swan (Kristen Stewart).

But Cavill was too old by the time the blockbuster movie went ahead and Pattinson won the role instead. "I never set out to achieve anything, certainly not fame like this," he admits. "I still have to deal with how to actually make my life work."

The obvious comparison regarding his ascent to stardom is with Daniel Radcliffe who, even if he gets his gear off on stage, will forever be known as Harry Potter. Like his fellow Briton, Pattinson has gone against the puerile grain of Twilight to appear in gay sex scenes for his portrayal of the Spanish painter Salvador Dali in Little Ashes.

Pattinson hopes his Twilight role will leave him without the typecasting that Radcliffe will surely face. "I worked on Harry Potter for 11 months and I couldn't imagine doing that for all those years. I don't know how those guys have stayed sane. I would go completely crazy, hardly being able to do anything else for so long."

Pattinson was contracted to do the four Twilight movies and once Eclipse wraps up in Vancouver, only Breaking Dawn remains to be filmed. "They were all filmed quickly and painlessly," he says.

The much-anticipated second instalment, The Twilight Saga: New Moon, is in cinemas next month. In the flesh, Pattinson only vaguely resembles Edward Cullen because he is far from being a tortured soul himself. A lot of the image is created through posturing, make-up and that mop of tousled hair. "I wear contact lenses for the character and in the first movie I wore a bit of lipstick but in New Moon I don't. They've changed my look in this one. I don't pluck my eyebrows so much in this one, either." (thank God)

Is he wearing make-up today? "Naaa," he replies disdainfully, and seems pleased that New Moon is aimed more towards males. "This was always my favorite book. New Moon will be a lot more relatable for guys, whereas it was quite difficult for me to express all those emotions in Twilight. I think it's difficult for guys to accept those kind of emotions."

Given that expectations are running so high, he approached reprising the role with trepidation. "I was really worried I wouldn't know how to do it again, but I have a natural chemistry going on with Kristen and doing the sequel was so easy. She always says she pretty much got me the part, but I don't really believe her," he says with a smile.

Pattinson also could relax because he has a smaller role in New Moon. This time werewolf Jacob (Taylor Lautner) takes center stage. In the third movie Eclipse, the two have to jostle over who wins Bella's heart – if she still has one by then.

Pattinson seems the most unlikely heart-throb material as he really has grungy tastes and disdain for the high life. But, while he maintains he doesn't like fast cars (his father used to sell them) and that he is single, he was photographed driving a Porsche leaving his co-star Kristen Stewart's house. Maybe they were learning their lines or it could even be a set-up. It wouldn't be the first relationship created to sell a movie.

Though the idea of his being single seems all the more likely given that he probably hasn't any energy for a relationship. (Twilight cast member, Anna Kendrick, confirmed his single status in an interview last month.) Pattinson has so little time to do anything but work. "I'm working almost every day this year," he confirms.

"I had three days off between Remember Me and Eclipse and then I've had to start learning Comanche and bareback riding for Unbound Captives. I don't only want to do the same part. I'm doing Bel Ami, based on the Guy de Maupassant novel in January as well, and I don't really know how I'm going to fit that in. I have to gain weight – but I don't think they'll let me put on much as I have to shoot the final Twilight movie afterwards. I have to look older, as the character Georges Duroy has been living hard for a good six years just getting drunk all the time. So I want to look a bit haggard."

While he says that in Remember Me he is basically playing himself, Georges Duroy probably is also closer to his own reality. Currently Pattinson lives out of three suitcases. "I live in hotel rooms," he admits. He had a grungy rented flat in London's Soho but let it go when it essentially became a crash pad for his buddies.

The young London-born star has kept his close friends close, and his family, too. "The fame thing's been good for one thing. My friends I grew up with are musicians and they were involved with a few songs on the Twilight soundtrack and it's amazing what's happened to them. They're doing tours of America and they're selling out every single show. My friend Sam Bradley did a show at the Whisky A Go Go in Los Angeles and it sold out quicker on telephone presales than any show that's been there. Sam's unsigned [to a record deal] and there was no advertising, nothing. It's insane what you can do just by that connection."
Pattinson, who composes and sings, performed two songs for the Twilight soundtrack. He has been playing the piano since he was 5. Raised with two elder sisters – Lizzy, a musician, who's in the band Aurora; and Victoria, who's in advertising – Pattinson grew up in comfortable family surrounds.

His mother, Clare, used to work in a modelling agency, but it was his father Richard who suggested he become involved with amateur productions at Barnes Theatre Company. "That was only because he saw a bunch of pretty girls who were going there, and he said: 'Hey Rob, you've got to go do that.'"

Pattinson's parents are now both retired and live vicariously through their son's fame. "It's funny; I think they expect me to be reacting differently. They think it's more impressive than I think it is. Ultimately everyone in my life knows what's real – apart from my mother, who seems to believe every negative thing that's written about me."

Such as? "Oh, it was about sleeping with people and swearing and I wasn't even in the city at the time. She's like, 'No, I don't believe you; I bet you did say that.' She believes a gossip magazine over her own son. "My sister Lizzy just finds it bizarre. She was in America in May and sent me a text saying, 'It's ridiculous how famous you are!' It's weird, the mags print stuff every week even if I don't do anything."

Initially the fanaticism was stronger in the US, he says. "I came back to the UK at Christmas and was mostly left alone. Now it's everywhere," he shudders, laughing. "I keep waiting for the day when I wake up and I'm just an asshole to everybody."

The security is so tight around Pattinson now that he leads his life in a kind of bubble. "I'm usually half-carried in and out of buildings by bodyguards," he says. "It was driving me a little bit nuts at first, but you just learn to deal with it. If you keep being negative, if you keep saying, 'I hate this, I hate this' then you'd go crazy."

If only he could come up with an answer to the burning press pack question: "What does he look for in a girl?"
"Errr, money," he replies, "and an unbelievable amount of patience." Is it true that famous women try to hit on him? "That's all bullshit. Maybe I don't even realize that they're doing it ..."
He says he doesn't have a perfect girl, though admits, "she would have to be down-to-earth." So is there a celebrity he's adored? "Um," he stutters, struggling for an answer to yet another trite question. "I like Patricia Arquette in True Romance. She was always my pin-up. I like Linda Blair [from The Exorcist] as well."

Rob...‘I’ve Messed up Relationships’

ROBERT Pattinson admits he often messes up his relationships. The actor — who is rumored to have split from his girlfriend/costar Kristen Stewart — says he found it easy to play Edward Cullen in Twilight sequel New Moon because he was able to relate to the character.
“With New Moon I felt really relaxed and found it easy to get back into it,” he said. “I think it’s because I always connected more to the second book, than the first. I just understood the story and his motivations a lot more, because there are all these emotions in it that I can relate to in my own life, like when he feels himself making the wrong decision about leaving Bella behind, but he does it anyway.
“I think you do that a lot, as a guy, in relationships. It’s like you’re compelled to mess it up.
“I can understand him doing that, because I’m always messing up. It’s real life — it’s what happens!”
Rob, 23, recently revealed that he tries to make his life look boring in the hope people lose interest in him.
“None of my strategies works particularly well. I’ve [tried] making my life look as boring as possible because I thought it would cause them to lose interest, but it didn’t,” he said.
“A seven-year-old came up and asked me to bite her — and she was serious. I thought, ‘You don’t know what you’re asking.’ That was very odd.”

Robert Pattinson Wouldn’t Want To Live Forever

When Robert Pattinson’s character, Cedric Diggory, was ruthlessly slain in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire – thereby ending his brief, but magical spell at Hogwarts – it could so easily have been curtains for his fledgling career. Instead, it acted as the catalyst for a grander fantasy, as he was propelled from bit-part wizard to vampire lead Edward Cullen in the film adaptation of Stephenie Meyer’s best-selling teen-tome, Twilight.
In doing so, not only has Pattinson starred in two of the biggest fantasy franchises in film history – a huge coup for any aspiring actor – but he’s also become one of Hollywood’s hottest new stars and a pin-up for hordes of adoring, teenage girls. (ahem...what about us cougars?)

Accordingly, his life’s become a whirl of crazed, Twilight fans loitering outside his home, the paparazzi preying upon his every move and being mobbed whenever he appears in public. It’s a predicament he’s struggling to cope with.

“Every time I go out, no matter where I am, people just go completely nuts! It’s unreal,” he says, shaking his head in disbelief. “When I started doing this, I knew the books were big in America but it keeps surprising me how much bigger everything’s getting! Every time I see physical manifestations of it, like fans going wild, my brain can’t process it, because it’s just too weird.

“One of the weirdest days was when we started shooting New Moon at this high school, in Canada. The school was still open, so there were kids everywhere,” recalls Pattinson. “We did this scene, where we were just walking around the corridors but, after every take, all the kids started applauding. It was the same whenever a class came out after a lesson: they’d all clap. That was really bizarre – one of the strangest days ever.”

He’s also bemused by the frequent comparisons made between him, Jude Law and Leonardo DiCaprio – who personally endorsed Pattinson’s burgeoning career and teen heartthrob status by declaring; “finally there’s someone to take that burden off me”.

“When I heard Leonardo DiCaprio had said that, I just thought; ‘Wow, that’s so cool,’ because that guy’s had the best career of any young actor,” enthuses Pattinson. “You can virtually guarantee anything he’s in will be good. That’s the type of career I’d like to have too.”

He’s beginning to, with a series of diverse roles including portraying Salvador Dali in Little Ashes, a biopic of the legendary Spanish artist, playing an angst-ridden 20-something in the acclaimed How to Be and starring alongside Pierce Brosnan in Remember Me. But, for the moment, Pattinson’s world revolves around New Moon and Eclipse, the next two instalments of the Twilight chronicles.

“Yeah, I’ve done a couple of other films – working straight through, without a day off, for a year – so it was great to get back to this [New Moon]. It’s actually been kind of fun,” he smiles. “That was a surprise, because the first film was really difficult. I actually found it hard trying to portray the profundity of him finding love and having those kinds of intense feelings, as he goes from feeling absolutely nothing – from being fossilised – to suddenly feeling everything, because he meets this girl, Bella. It was really hard to show that. I was always stressing myself out [about it].

“But with this one [New Moon] I felt really relaxed and found it easy to get back into it,” Pattinson grins.

It’s like you’re compelled to mess it up,” he suggests, sniggering involuntarily at the premise of Edward literally abandoning Bella to the werewolves when she turns to Taylor Lautner’s character, Jacob Black, for solace. “I can understand him doing that, because I’m always messing up. It’s real life – it’s what happens!”

Pattinson’s real life, these days, is about as strange and spooky as his pivotal role in New Moon, but he has an interesting take on it – and also his meteoric rise to stardom.

“I think it’s karma. I really do, because karma’s bitten me on the arse so many times, like with this,” he suggests, seriously. “They’d been doing castings for it for over a year and they’d even asked me to do a tape for it, in London, at least six months before, but I just didn’t bother because I thought; ‘Well, I’m not going to get it anyway.’ I was actually quite blase about the whole thing, but then I went over to LA, walked in the room and did the audition, something clicked and I got the part a week later! I actually think I was the last person they saw.

“It was kind of the same with Harry Potter. I’d never have auditioned for it, because I don’t like the way they cast those big movies,” he explains. “They do group auditions, where you have to pretend to climb a tree or something like that. There’s no way I’d do that; I’d be too embarrassed. Luckily the casting director from Vanity Fair – a movie I’d previously done – was also casting Goblet of Fire and asked me to meet [director] Mike Newell before they’d cast anyone. It’s probably because she felt guilty after my part got cut from Vanity Fair!”

Whatever the reason, be it chance, charm, guile or guilt, Pattinson has shrewdly exploited his position to transform himself from unknown Brit to Hollywood-hit, by nailing the part of vampire Edward Cullen and casting a supernatural effect over both critics and fans, alike.

But, despite his fondness for the Twilight saga and his character, Pattinson insists he’ll be happy to finally banish them both to the grave, after the concluding episode. Likewise, he’s less than enamoured with the idea of acquiring any vampire traits himself.

“When you think about it, being a vampire means you have to kill people and feed on their blood, but all you get in return is you can run really fast, or throw things around. That’s kind of a lame trade-off,” he surmises.

“It’s the same with living forever. I wouldn’t want to, under any circumstance. I don’t think anyone would want to, would they? It’s like my great aunt.
“She’s 97 and a very, very funny woman but every time I talk to her she says things like; ‘When you next come to see me, can you please bring me some poison?’ I’m like; ‘Yeah, OK’ because I know what she means. Live forever? I couldn’t think of anything worse…”

How many sneak peeks of New Moon is too many?

With countless Twilight Saga New Moon photos released online and a slew of new New Moon clips hitting the web on a weekly basis, eventually Twilight Saga fans will have the entire New Moon film in pieces, which begs the Twilight question: Is it even worth the trouble to see New Moon in the theater? Is Summit Entertainment releasing too much of New Moon ahead of the November 20 Twilight Saga premiere? Lately some of the frenzied Twilight anticipation for New Moon feels to be eroding away with so many New Moon photos and clips of Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart, Taylor Lautner and the New Moon wolf pack now online. And with New Moon still four weeks away from its Twilight premiere, it's safe to assume Twilight and New Moon fans will see even more before the Twilight Saga sequel hits theaters. To some Twilight degree, the many New Moon photos and clips feel as through we're sneaking a peek at Twilight Saga Christmas presents and then trying to act surprised when New Moon Christmas morning arrives.
At this point, should we still be excited over all of the New Moon coverage? The excitement over New Moon is understandable and certainly makes Twilight Saga fans happy. Now another new New Moon clip has been released featuring the Volturi clan in New Moon. Although the new New Moon clip is cool, it's starting to feel a little too much and diluting the Twilight surprise.
By the time November 20 comes, Twilight Saga fans will be so hyped for New Moon that fans may not realize how much of New Moon they've already seen from the many New Moon photos and clips already released. Although I'm still Twilight psyched to see New Moon and can't wait, I'm curious if other Twilight Saga fans feel the same way. With only four weeks until the premiere of New Moon, is it fair to call for a Twilight Saga moratorium on New Moon clips and photos to keep the Twilight sequel excitement intact?

Daniel Cudmore: Beating up Rob is fun!

In case you haven't seen it, one of the newest clips for The Twilight Saga: New Moon involves a very brutal, face-cracking fight scene between Felix (Daniel Cudmore) and Edward (Robert Pattinson).
Recently, Cudmore was interviewed by FoForks, a Brazilian Twilight series fansite, and he got the chance to discuss that very fight scene.
[I]t was a fun fight scene to work on and Robert really liked doing as much of the fight as he could, I slept like a baby afterwards. We’ll see how everyone feels after the movie comes out, and if they don’t like my character, then I did a good job.
Indeed.
As you know,  Felix's character is a bit flirtatious with Bella in New Moon, but he certainly does not begin a physical confrontation in the book (but instead leaves the tormenting to Jane (Dakota Fanning in the film)).
According to The Twilight Saga: New Moon: The Official Illustrated Movie Companion, though, the idea of Felix fighting Edward was a bit inspired by Stephenie Meyer herself. This comes from Melissa Rosenberg, The Twilight Saga: New Moon's screenwriter.
I had Edward fighting ever Volturi guard . . .  Stephenie did rein me in, and we settled for what was appropriate. Stephenie pointed out that Felix is a Volturi Guard, and his gift is fighting, so that would be enough of a challenge for Edward.

Rob Pattinson Talks About His Musical Career

Next week in Los Angeles, the cast of "New Moon" will launch a 15-city tour, crisscrossing the nation as they promote the release of the "Twilight" sequel. There's no word yet whether Robert Pattinson himself will show up at any of the events, which will feature Q&As with the cast and live music from "Twilight" bands like Death Cab for Cutie and Band of Skulls. But while such promotional efforts are part of the moviemaking business, the type of tour RPattz is really interested in is of a different pop-culture variety: music.
As he told the Australian newspaper theDaily Telegraph, he one days wants to kick off a concert tour, though he's not as excited about actually releasing an album. "I'm not particularly interested in releasing it, but I'd like to do some gigs," he said. "I guess the only way to do that is to get an album out."
As Twilighters know well, Pattinson plays the guitar and piano and recorded a number of songs for the "Twilight" soundtrack (though only one, "Never Think," eventually was included on the disc). Pattinson also played a struggling singer/songwriter in the indie film "How to Be," which made its TV debut last spring.
But before he hits the road with a live act, Pattinson thinks he has to devote more time to improving his guitar skills. "I never manage more than five chords," he laughed. "I have to work on that."
One thing he's attempted to work on as well, Pattinson told the Telegraph, is creating an image of himself that is less interesting to paparazzi and that might allow him to retain a sense of privacy. "None of my strategies works particularly well," he admitted. "I've [tried] making my life look as boring as possible because I thought it would cause them to lose interest, but it didn't.
"A seven-year-old came up and asked me to bite her — and she was serious," he added. "I thought, 'You don't know what you're asking.' That was very odd."

‘Little Ashes’ Comes to DVD

Robert Pattinson ditches his vampire cape — and his clothes, in at least one talked-about scene — for a cheesy moustache to play surrealist artist Salvador Dalí in Little Ashes. The film follows a young Dali at university, where he meets fellow luminaries in writer Federico García Lorca (Javier Beltrán) and filmmaker Luis Buñuel (Matthew McNulty). Lorca becomes infatuated with Dalí and their friendship turns into something more.

So what’s the story with this movie — is it an excuse to get Pattinson out of his clothes and into some gay mess, or is it actually a good movie that he just happens to star in? The reviews have been all over the place. But Marina Gatell’s performance as a fellow writer enamored with Lorca has gotten praise all around.

E1 Entertainment must have sold their souls or something to get a hold of two Pattinson movies in one year (the other, The Haunted Airman, came out last week).

NOTE: This isn’t the official trailer, but I like this one because the girl says

Rob Takes A Beating In The New 'New Moon' TV Spot...

Taylor Lautner best watch his back. Though all the publicity for "Twilight" follow-up "New Moon" would have us believe Taylor is the star of this vampire romance, judging from another new TV spot on Yahoo Movies!, Welsh actor Michael Sheen, who plays fiendish vampire Aro, may just steal the show.

While yesterday's "Event" spot focused on the rising tension between Edward and Jacob, "Volturi Fight" features a showdown between Edward (Robert Pattinson) and the ruling coven's henchman Felix (Daniel Cudmore). The clip opens on Aro contemplating Bella's (Kristen Stewart) fate.

"What do we do with you now?" he wonders aloud, betraying not a hint of emotion. Caius (Jamie Campbell Bower) and Marcus (Christopher Heyerdahl) sitting atop matching thrones, convince Aro that Bella knows too much. With a slight tilt of his head, Aro summons Felix to take care of matters, but Edward quickly steps in front of Bella, flipping her behind him, to shield her from the guard. So instead, Felix throws Edward in the air, smashing him into the marble floor and cracking his beautiful face.
As impressed as I was with Michael's subtly nuanced performance (even in the short, short bit highlighted here), I was also pleased to see more authentic-looking special effects at work. We've gotten hints of it in previous trailers, but here once again we get a glimpse of the "vampire speed" effect, which in "Twilight" looked cartoonish but here looks smooth and sleek like something off of "True Blood."

False Reports on Robert Pattinson anger loyal fans...

Robert Pattinson is currently one of Hollywood's hottest stars, with that comes a major fan following. Not only does he have a plethora of screaming women and girls who are in love with his talent, good looks, and charm, he also has the 'Twilight' fans behind him. Trust me, you don't anger the 'Twilight' fans.
Pattinson, 23, is constantly under media scrutiny and is commonly the subject of rumors and lies. Most recently, a nasty rumor about how he needs to go to rehab for substance abuse.  But thanks to Gossip Cop, who actually take the time to check the facts, fans can rest assure with out a doubt that Robert Pattinson does not need to go to rehab, and that those ridiculous stories are nothing but false reporting.
So, who was the culprit? The same tabloid who printed the story that Pattinson had gotten his 19 year old co star and rumored girlfriend, Kristen Stewart Pregnant, New Weekly Magazine.
The Australian tabloid already has a bad track record with Twi hards everywhere, but fans are incensed at these latest rumors.
The magazine claims that "friends" of the 'Twilight' hottie have come forth to say that Robert is "drinking to excess and indulging in other dangerous behavior. His people are very worried and starting to think he should go to rehab." The tabloid claims that Pattinson parties constantly in a his luxury hotel suite that includes three bars, "which are restocked every day."
The "friends" quotes get worse stating that "He loves the dive bar Loose Moose, where fights break out in the middle of the day and the nights are wild."  On several occasions his clothes have been stained with puke, and his shirt was once buttoned all weird."
Gossip Cop says they have "been speaking to people close to "Eclipse" and its stars for three months. No one has ever even hinted at Robert Pattinson drinking too much, let alone staging "a series of out-of-control benders." We think it's pretty shameful, even by tabloid standards, to write such nonsense with such weak "evidence."

Vulture pieces of shit.

It looks like the Twilight films aren't just a North American obsession. Twilight mania has hit Germany and has done so in a huge record breaking way. The pre-sales for tickets to New Moon have sky-rocketed and ticket buyers have caused computer systems to crash all over the nation.

Since last Saturday, over 150,000 tickets have been sold. German twilight fans will have the chance to catch the first Twilight film in theaters the week before their November 26th release.

Twilight Saga: New Moon hits theaters in the US on November 20th, have you ordered your tickets yet?

Jackson Rathbone Mum On Robert Pattinson/ Kristen Stewart Rumors...

"It's none of my business.  I stay out of it", Twilight actor says.

BOSTON — When we got the chance to talk to "Twilight" star Jackson Rathbone on the set of his new movie "Girlfriend," we couldn't pass up the opportunity to ask someone deeply involved the biggest question surrounding the franchise: What is the deal with Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson?
After a brief pause Rathbone carefully replied, "What's the deal with them? Oh, they're not actually vampires."
Despite our faux disbelief that Pattinson wasn't actually Edward Cullen, Rathbone insisted, "No, he's actually a really nice human. It's crazy, I know. I know. But yeah, the guy's a great guy."
Before "Twilight" had even debuted last November, there were rumors circling Stewart and Pattinson, with tabloids trying to figure out whether the two were romantically involved like their characters. And the fact that director Catherine Hardwicke said the reason she cast the pair was because of their potent sexual chemistry while doing a kissing scene on her bed — not to mention that Pattinson has admittedly proposed to his co-star four times — doesn't help.
"Everybody always asks me those questions about that, and it's one of those things — it's none of my business. I stay out of it," Rathbone said.
But despite the relative silence from the cast on the subject, tabloids — like OK! magazine this week — continue to cover supermarket checkout aisles with conflicting testimonies regarding the actors' relationship status.
"Whenever we're passing through the tabloid articles, we're always like, 'Hey! There's our friends!' " Jackson said with a laugh. "I've been able to stay out of them as much as possible."

Sometimes, less is more.  I do believe his answer, or lack of, speaks volumes.
